Good dog flea shampoo....for hair loss?

My dog is about 1.5 years old, hes very healthy, although I know he gets fleas sometimes because hes outside alot in the woods... but he intermittently looses some hair on his back near his tail... I think its just from occasional fleas and him bitting his hair off...he also gets some bumps and scabbing Hes very much an inside dog and I give him baths about once a week... so does anyone know what would be the best shampoo for his situation? thanksGood dog flea shampoo....for hair loss?
Bathing him less often and using either a puppy shampoo or even a baby formula will help. As far as the fleas giving Brewer's yeast will knock the flea problem out. Depending on his size give about 1/2-1 tespoon every morning mixed in the food. It will deter the fleas from biting him because it changes the chemical taste in the blood. I have 4 dogs and have been giving brewer's yeast every morning for 3 years and have had no fleas on any of my dogs or in my home. It's possible your dog is allergic to fleas- the bumps are a common symptom. Your vet can prescribe antihistamines to help in the meantime.

I think shampoo won't solve this problem and you are already bathing too frequently. Get the dog on Frontline Plus or Advantage and use it monthly. Also don't discount the possibility of a food allergy. I'd see your vet and figure out what's going on.
well he probably has a skin infection take him to a vet, but its nothing to worry about.

Dawn dish washing soap does work well, however remember that any sort of shampoo will not prevent your dog from getting fleas. In addition, the fact that you are bathing him about once a week really is excessive and dawn will only strip away the little bit of oils his glands are able to produce... and he needs them to have a healthy coat, as it is a very harsh detergent soap.





As a shampoo I would recommend the Cain %26amp; able peppermint shampoo which is available at www.doglando.com/barkavenue, and they also sell a peppermint spray which you should definitely try. The idea is to spray that on each time before he goes outsides, as peppermint is an effective repellent.

There is no shampoo for the situation that you are describing......your dog has an allergy to the bite of the fleas....you need to keep fleas off of him for this to clear up. The skin condition that he gets (scabs, bumps and itchy skin) is called milliary dermititis........you need to get rid of the fleas and keep on a monthly flea prevention, you need to treat your house for flea infestation ( fleas don't live on the pet they live in his environment, they hop on to feed and mate then lay eggs.) You can bathe him but that will not keep the fleas off or clean up the skin unless you rid the fleas from your house.





If your dog is chewing himself so badly that he is hairless in areas and has sores, he needs to see the vet for some antibiotics and perhaps a short acting steroid as well.

Shampoos are not a good way to treat fleas. All they do is wash off some of the current fleas, which is no good. It sound like your dog may have a flea allergy, so you need to kill ALL the fleas and prevent them from returning - i.e get a proper flea treatment from a vets, Frontline, Advantage, Revolution or Advocate. You have to wait 48 hours before and after bathing before applying these or they can't work properly - but they do work well, and it sure sounds like you need them. Store-bought flea treatments don't work.





You've said 'he's very much an inside dog' but also 'he's outside a lot in the woods'. So which is it? It doesn't matter either way, because even dogs that are inside 100% of the time can still get feas - fleas enter houses easily.

Your dog is losing hair because hes allergic to fleas, my dog is the same way. So I use the advantix twice a year, it'll keep bugs off your dog, my dog is really little though so hes not outside alot, so you'll probably have to follow the ';one every 3 months'; instructions.
